With film star good looks, charismatic personality and natural flair behind the wheel, François Cevert always seemed destined to be a top-flight Grand Prix driver.

In his 3rd year with the Tyrrell team, François had already proven he could mix it with the best having scored his first victory the year before at the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.

In Jackie Stewart, François had more than a team mate, he had a mentor and a friend:

“It’s very simple, Jackie did all my education. I was driving like hell and not thinking enough about what I was doing. Jackie stopped all that and taught me how you must analyse a car, how you must think when you are driving, the vision you must have. He did all my education… Jackie is still the maestro for me.” (François Cevert)
